Sample After-School Classes:

Each class culminates with a fun show or in-class presentation for families and friends.
Stage Stars
Have you ever wanted to follow a yellow brick road, go on a magic carpet ride, or visit mermaids under the sea? Students in this popular class let their imaginations be their guide as they dance their cares away, play theatre games to their heart’s content and study music and choreography from a current Broadway show!  Acting, singing, and dancing are all incorporated right into this fun-filled class, and students work together to create a show while learning a bit more about what makes Broadway the most popular theatre destination in the world.  All BBK students are invited to see the show on Broadway and attend a master class with a cast member from the show with our sister program, InterACTive Broadway.

Gleek Out
Inspired by the hit Fox TV show, “Glee”, this popular class gets students rockin’ out like never before! Students form and become part of their very own Glee Club. They learn how to create great mash-up songs and their own choreography, work as a team to put an original show together, and sing their hearts out!

Mix-it-Up Dance
Students in this unique, high-energy class learn a combination of jazz, hip-hop, and musical theater dance. In addition to learning dance technique, increasing coordination and self-esteem, students learn choreography to their favorite songs. This class is a great way for students to get moving and have fun after school!

Improv
Do you have students who could one day be on Drew Carey’s show, "Whose Line is it Anyway"?  Many of the games are incorporated right into this class! Improvisation helps students think on their feet, develop confidence in their own creativity, and find their inner comedian. It also stimulates the imagination, develops storytelling skills, strengthens acting choices, increases stage presence, and is tons of fun!  Students learn to write sketch comedy scenes and monologues from scratch and perform them in an original show.

Create-A-Musical
Guided by our caring and experienced teaching artists, students in this class create and star in their own mini-musicals! Students learn the value of teamwork first-hand; have fun writing scripts and songs, and creating choreography; and get to see their very own ideas come to life in a show.

Creative Movement
A perfect end to the school day for younger students, this class is an imaginative way for children to explore movement in a fun, noncompetitive, and success-oriented environment. Students learn about their bodies, the space around them, and each other, as well as their relationship with the world. They develop coordination, stability, balance, increased sensory awareness, new social skills, and get to go wherever their creativity and imaginations can take them!

Magic of Musical Theatre
In this inspiring class, students explore the magic that has kept the bright lights of Broadway burning for well over 100 years. Students belt out show tunes from the world’s most popular Broadway hits including Wicked, Cinderella, The Music Man, Hairspray, Annie, Shrek, and many more.  This class gives students a fun place to express themselves, learn about the fascinating world of performing arts, gain confidence, and make new friends.

William Shakespeare, The Original King of Comedy
The class begins with an introduction linking Hollywood Blockbuster comedies to the classic comedies of Shakespeare and his players. Students are often surprised to learn that the same comedy that tickled our funny bone 400 years ago is still breaking box office records today. This class provides a unique immersion into the wonderful world of William Shakespeare, and makes his incredible works accessible to all ages. Our skilled instructors help students draw parallels between Shakespeare’s comedic stars and modern day comedians like Will Ferrell, Paul Rudd, and Kristen Wiig. Students will have a blast clowning around with some of Shakespeare’s greatest hits.

Shakespeare’s Witches, Ghosts and Villains
This class is one big exercise in imagination! As a group, we investigate the dark and interesting characters found in Shakespeare's plays: witches, ghosts, mad characters, and even monsters. We explore the style of each of these characters, raising questions about how they move, speak, and what drives them to do what they do. Students open the door to “finding your character” through movement and voice, take risks vocally and physically, and learn to communicate thoughts clearly from the perspectives of these captivating characters. Class culminates in a performance of scenes and students get to become the characters that have engrossed audiences for hundreds of years.
