BBK ROCKS!

7th-12th Grades

Curriculum Content:

  • Grab your mic and let’s rock! In partnership with The PATH Fund, BBK Rocks is a three-week Pop/Rock performance intensive specifically designed for students (7th-12th) who lack access to the arts. We are seeking vocalists, instrumentalists, or both for this completely tuition-free program. Admission to the program is based on an application and audition. In this program, our Teaching Artists will work with students on Pop/Rock performances customized to each student’s creative sensibility and will collaboratively create two group numbers. We will build a curriculum that meets every student where they are, aiming for each student to find growth and a sense of accomplishment at the end of the semester. Working towards creating a final product, we will build community in our classes, and offer a chance for each student involved to grow their relationship with music! In this class students will:

    • Work on pop/rock vocal technique

    • Create their own musical arrangements

    • Build self confidence and stage presence

    • Perform in the BBK Rocks Concert with a live band at a professional music venue

Culminating Event:

On the last day of class, students will participate in the third annual BBK Rocks concert. From sound check to the green room, performers will experience all of the elements of putting together a real rock concert. Performing with a live band on a professional stage, students will sing a solo and group number. Guardians, industry professionals, and friends can attend this one of a kind concert!

CURTAIN UP!

4th-12th Grades

Curtain up! In this tuition-free, three-week intensive, BBK teaching artists will work with students to create a cohesive musical revue based on the songs and shows that light up Broadway! Using student voice and choice, our ensemble of performers will work together to create a theme. Inspired by this theme, students will choose from musical theater and popular music to create a one of a kind revue. With opportunities for every student to shine, the ensemble will rehearse and polish their show to present to friends and family at the conclusion of the program. At the end of each week, students will take part in a master class with a Broadway performer and have a chance to perform for them. This incredibly fun program is designed to scale to each student's individual experience, ability, and passions. You don’t want to miss your curtain call!

BBK Bridge To Higher Education

RIsing High School Seniors

This program, like all BBK programs, inspires and empowers kids through the performing arts. To support BBK students on the road to higher education auditions, BBK will provide a 7-day audition intensive at no cost to families. This program creates an accessible route to pursuing the arts in higher education, a need that families have consistently expressed. At the end of this program, students will be equipped with material, audition techniques, and imperative knowledge for the higher education audition process.

*There are 10 spots available for this program, selections will be made based upon a submitted application.

Summer FAQs

  • All Broadway Bound Kids classes are taught by professional teaching artists and foster an environment of trust, community, and fun.  Our student-centered programs are designed to meet each student where they are, provide space for the group’s creativity, and hone their performing arts skills. Classes are catered specifically to the age group of enrolled students to create challenging but achievable goals.  BBK teaching artists are trained to bring mindfulness and social-emotional learning to their classrooms, all while having a great time!

  • At this time we cannot offer drop-ins during weekly classes as capacity is limited. However, keep a lookout on our website for one-off programming (like our Master Classes!) if you’re looking for a smaller time commitment!

  • At BBK, community building and theater fun are all part of the package! Our TA’s will spend the middle parts of the Program teaching content, to leave room in the morning or afternoon for students that may have to arrive late or leave early.

  • Please do! Each week your Program Manager will keep you informed on the logistics of the final share. We encourage families to get involved and see what their students have created!

  • We understand that families have a lot to deal with at times.  If you sign up for a BBK summer program, but need to cancel, email Samantha Parrish-Khan at samantha@broadwayboundkids.org

  • Students are to bring their own nut-free lunch to BBK's summer programming.

  • Yes! There will be water available on site. Students are welcome to bring refillable bottles.

  • Your child should wear comfortable clothes they can move in, as well as sneakers for dancing. Apart from a sack lunch, feel free to pack a snack, bottle of water, and sunscreen!

  • You may pick your child up early if previously discussed with your Teaching Artist and/or BBK staff member. There will be no early drop off or late pick up. Failure to pick up your child on time may result in a fine if the tardiness is habitual.

  • Broadway Bound Kids is passionate about cultivating student voice and a providing a space full of belonging. In BBK Programming, every student that wants a speaking line or solo will receive it! In the case of the musical, we must stay true to the script. That means there are some roles that are bigger than others. But our Teaching Artists work hard to provide opportunities to all our actors, no matter what part they receive.

  • All of our programs differ slightly, but below is a typical day in a BBK summer program:

9:30am Check in with Remini App and Drop off your Student
    9:35am Mindful Check In
9:40am Voice and Body Warm Ups
    9:50am Theater Games
    10:00am Learning Music Content
    10:45am Game/Snack Break
    11:00am Learning Choreography Content
    11:40am Games/Crafts
    12:00-12:45 Lunch and Time Outside
    1:00pm Game and Refocus
    1:15pm Devising/Storytelling
    2:00pm Cool Down
    2:15pm Mindful Reflection
    2:30pm Check-Out

  • In the case of inclement weather, we will keep the entire day indoors.

  • No need to purchase any props or costumes! Depending upon the story the students are writing, the Teaching Artist may ask students to bring things from home, and students will also be creating some props during craft time.
